Playing to Fix Painter's Block and Happy New Year!

A combination of things has triggered an awful painter's block. I have several commission pieces that have being sitting waiting to either completed or just started all together. There have been many times when I struggled with a painting or two, but then I would go on with a new painting and that seemed to give me a better perspective when I went back to the previous ones. However, this has not been the case this time. No matter what painting I started, I couldn't finish it. So, I just stopped painting for a few weeks, which is very rare.

Of course I missed playing with my brushes and paints dearly. So, in order to "fix" this block, I decided to just place whatever I grabbed first from my curio cabinet and combine them with some pears and roses (my favorites) and use these as props for still lifes with no plan. It was surprising how well it worked. Now, to get to commissions. Happy New Years to you and yours and thank you for being such a lovely part of my 2014.

    Some times it helps to just play a little bit, like you did, it seems to work well with sewing and flowers too. I find that this somehow just helps the flow of creativity. Your painting is beautiful. Happy New Year. Kind regards Sally

The Apple Tree that Could

I've been babying it for about four years now. To my surprise, last year it finally gave apples. However, after a couple of days of seeing the tree with lots of apples adorning its branches, I took my daughter to see the little miracle, but ALL the apples were gone. She looked at me as though I was trying to pull her leg. This year, the tree was filled with even more apples.
