Oklahoma Proud

Still Life with Roses and Pear,  Oil on 6"x8" Linen Panel
SOLD
Here in Oklahoma, we are used to the winds blowing, and even when they beat us around a bit
(sometimes a lot), we are strong and together we get up again and get moving.
I live about 40 minutes from where this past week a tornado rolled over the town of Moore. It was like most Spring days in that we stay weather-alert and have our things ready for when we need to jump into our storm shelter, but this time things just felt so different. Even the kids at work were acting a bit more jittery than most tornado warning days.
I know this time we were one of the fortunate ones and the tornadoes didn't head our direction, but we still ache for the people of Moore who lost their homes, businesses, and mostly those who lost loved ones.
When something like this moves you to the core so drastically, it tends to remind you how fragile we are and how the things we have are so temporary... enjoy them. Aside from hugging and telling those I love that I LOVE THEM, I found myself enjoying my roses every day. You know... the whole "stop to smell the flowers" thing.
Oklahomans are giving people. Any time there is a need, there is someone to help out, but it's been wonderful to witness all the support that has been pouring in from all over the nation and the world.
THANK YOU from Oklahoma.

  1. Terribly sad about Oklahoma.
Having people suffer and lose all they own is a terrible thing.
To live keeping things in a storm shelter is also
not the best way to live.
I guess if we have to think positive, the prospect of rebuilding bigger and better and stronger, is something to look forward to.

  2. No matter where we live there are things that threaten our lives in some way. We don't have hurricanes in Oklahoma;earthquakes and floods are of little threat in Oklahoma; volcanoes are nonexistent here etc. Yet, there are places where these dangers exist and people live wonderfully happy lives there. Oklahoma is a beautiful place with some of the best sunrises in the world and where people will stop whatever they are doing to help you.

Labor of Love

Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD  Private Collection in San Saba, TX First, I must say that everything I paint is because I absolutely love. I don't like to paint things that I don't find to be attractive to me for one reason or another. Sometimes it's sentimental reasons and other times it's as simple as beautiful colors or the texture. Either way, it's something that I want to capture and stare at for long periods of time. I want to study it and how it affects the environment around it, as in the case of Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase does. In that respect, I feel ALL my paintings are a labor of love.  More often than not, I have to create a painting, wipe it all down, and start all over again if something is just not working. Some never get completed and I just end up painting something totally different on that panel. Then there are some, that I just have to paint, no matter how much trouble they are giving

The Apple Tree that Could

Peonies in Glass Vase,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD Private Collection in Lebanon, IN  Green Apple,   Oil on 6 "x6"   Linen Panel S OLD Private Collection in  NewCanaan, CT    This little painting is of an apple from an apple tree on our property. I've been babying it for about four years now. To my surprise, last year it finally gave apples. However, after a couple of days of seeing the tree with lots of apples adorning its branches, I took my daughter to see the little miracle, but ALL the apples were gone. She looked at me as though I was trying to pull her leg. This year, the tree was filled with even more apples. I hope they mature well so that I may share with my neighbor that's been admiring it.  Still Life with Chanel,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel S OLD Private Collection in Pacifica, CA
